Hi there! My name is Grandma Kathy and this is a travel and food blog. My husband George and I are a couple of old farts who would love to retire, but are only half way there. I had a health scare a few months ago and decided to retire. George, on the other hand, still needs to pay the bills and will have to keep slaving away to support me in the manner to which I would like to be accustomed. Winning the lottery would be a big help. We have been married 35+ years, raised six kids and now are the proud grandparents of seven, with number eight almost here.

My passion is food, traveling and history. And children, of course, but I am pretty darned happy that the labor pain years are behind me. Now it is grandkids, which are much more fun. I love the lend-lease program of borrowing them and then returning after the fun is over.
I was a meeting leader for a major healthy living weight loss company. My love of food and childbirth expanded my girth until I joined as a member and lost 85 pounds. I went to work for the company and still count my points to keep the weight off. My biggest joy was the discovery that great food can be healthy and delicious. And I love to share recipes and secrets to success.
For years, I have recorded our trips and emailed them to interested friends and family. It has been repeatedly suggested I start a blog, but I never had the nerve to try it. Or had a clue how to do it. A friend has shoved me into it, and helped me set it up. I have to admit that I am excited. Thank you Joyce!
While I wish I could recount tales of climbing mountains or walking barefoot across a continent – it just isn’t going to happen. Those days were possible when I was changing diapers and wiping snotty noses. But there is still enough life left in the wrinkled body to take wonderful cruises to exotic ports or spend sunny days in Rome. Our slower pace gives me a chance to people watch, which can be as interesting as a famous landmark. And a whole lot funnier.
Luckily for me, my husband is a wonderfully strange and eccentric old coot. It is never dull traveling with George. He wisely doesn’t read what I write about him, otherwise we might still not be married. A true independent, he could care less that I wish he wouldn’t wear black socks and dress shoes with shorts and a bright orange safari shirt.
So, here goes – please let me know what you think!

Please add me, Kathy! Great blog by the way! I would have no clue how to do one either but I’m sure glad you did. Your writing style and sense of humor just keep me coming back for more; not to mention your continuous, positive encouragement and willingness to share.
Enjoy (in spite of poor George) 😉

Thanks Jill! We sure enjoyed your musical performance in Silverton this weekend. You sing the lyrics in such a clear, moving manner that the story of the ballads come alive. Hope to see you perform again!

I’d love to add you! I’m old and this is a new project, so I’m not sure I am doing this correctly. I’ve sent you an invite, and I think you just need to accept it to be a follower. If I am reading it correctly from my end, I don’t think I have you on the “official” followers list yet (but I could be wrong!).
Sorry if this duplicates what you have already done!
